- The Complete Hajj Guide
A plain-language walkthrough of the five days of Hajj, for pilgrims preparing for their first journey.
- Before You Go
What Hajj is, in brief
Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam — a pilgrimage to Makkah performed once in a lifetime by every Muslim who is physically and financially able. It takes place over five to six days each Dhul Hijjah, following a fixed sequence of rites tied to specific locations: Makkah, Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah.
- Day By Day
The sequence of Hajj
01
8th Dhul Hijjah — Ihram & Mina
Pilgrims enter Ihram, make their intention for Hajj, and travel to Mina to spend the day and night in worship.
02
9th Dhul Hijjah — Day of Arafat
The most significant day of Hajj — pilgrims stand at Arafat from noon until sunset in prayer and supplication.
03
Muzdalifah & Rami
After sunset, pilgrims travel to Muzdalifah to collect pebbles and rest overnight, then return to Mina to begin the symbolic stoning of the Jamarat.
04
Eid al-Adha & Tawaf al-Ifadah
Sacrifice, Halq or Taqsir (hair cutting), and Tawaf al-Ifadah at the Ka’bah mark the day of Eid.
05
Days of Tashreeq
Pilgrims remain in Mina for the following two or three days, continuing the Rami each day.
06
Tawaf al-Wada
A farewell Tawaf before leaving Makkah closes the rites of Hajj.
