- The Complete Umrah Guide
What Umrah is, how it differs from Hajj, and everything to know before your first journey to the Haramain.
- What Is Umrah?
A shorter pilgrimage, open all year
Umrah is a set of rites performed at Masjid al-Haram in Makkah — entering Ihram, Tawaf around the Ka’bah, Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, and Halq or Taqsir. Unlike Hajj, it isn’t tied to specific dates and can be performed at any point in the year.
- Planning Your Trip
Umrah vs Hajj, and choosing your package
Because Umrah has no fixed calendar, AL ZEENAT runs group departures from Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad and Bengaluru across the year, in five package tiers graded by hotel distance from the Haram. Ramadan departures follow a separate schedule — see our Ramadan packages for that season specifically.

Umrah guide FAQs
What is the difference between Hajj and Umrah?
Hajj is compulsory once in a lifetime and only performed on fixed dates in Dhul Hijjah. Umrah is voluntary, shorter, and can be performed at any time of year.
How long does Umrah take to perform?
The rites themselves — Tawaf, Sa’i and Halq or Taqsir — typically take 3–4 hours, though most pilgrims stay in Makkah and Madinah for a full trip of 7–14 days.
What is the best time of year for Umrah?
Umrah can be performed year-round. Ramadan carries special spiritual merit but sees the highest crowds and prices; the cooler months of November to February are popular for comfort.
What should I pack for Umrah?
Ihram garments (for men), comfortable walking sandals, modest everyday clothing, any personal medication, and a small bag for the walk to and from the Haram.
